Continuing Education Requirements of The Board of Certification

The National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (BOC) is the national governing body responsible for credentialing Athletic Trainers (AT).  In order to maintain current AT certification, individuals must meet BOC continuing education (CE) requirements. A total of fifty (50) hours of CE is required every two (2) years. There are two categories of CE - Level I and Level II. Level I involves BOC approval and Level II does not. There are 2 CE categories within Level I. The first is Evidenced Based Practice which requires a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 50 hours. The second is Category A which allows up to a maximum of 40 hours. Although CEUs are no longer awarded for emergency cardiac care (ECC) certification, ATs need to be current with the ECC requirements throughout the reporting period.
