Case Presentation: Page 1 of 5

Patient stated that she was injured at work as an automotive parts delivery personnel when she was lifting 30 pounds and tripped. She felt and heard a pop in her ankle. She felt immediate pain and was unable to weight bear on the foot. She noticed swelling immediately. She left work and drove home.

This patient followed up the next day with an orthopedist who sent her for and MRI of the left ankle and gave her a walking boot. She was scheduled to return to the orthopedist in one month’s time. She was put on disability from work. This patient was prescribed no treatment except the walking boot and to return in one month. She was not given instructions on rest, ice, compression or elevation. She was prescribed pain killers.

Being a lifelong chiropractic patient, after one month of no improvement on the ankle and no treatment plans or instructions, this patient contacted my office to inform me of her injury as I have been her DC for over 30 years.

Question: What evaluation would you perform at this time?
