Loss of proprioception and balance are a huge concern with patients who have not appropriately used weight bearing or favor one side over another due to injury. This patient lost much balance and control of her ankle stability because of the injury and the atrophy that ensued from wearing the boot and avoiding weight bearing. It was important that this patient be returned to normal balance and weight bearing prior to dismissal.
