Washington Continuing Education Requirements:
OTA: 30 hrs biennially - Washington Accepts 29 hours of Online Continuing Education Courses
A minimum of 20 hours must directly relate to the practice of OTA
Special Requirement:
As of January 1, 2014, OTA's are required to complete at least 3 hrs of CE in suicide assessment every 6 years. This CE must be an empirically supported training in suicide assessment that includes risk assessment, screening, and referral.
Requires 3 hours of suicide screening and assessment - See our Topic Suicide Assesment and take Washington State Suicide Assessment and Referral. This course has been approved by the Washington Department of Health as an approved training program for the mandated Suicide Assessment CE requirement and is listed on the Model List of suicide training for health professionals
This one-time training must be completed by the end of the first full reporting period after January 1, 2016 or during the first full continuing education reporting period after initial licensure, whichever is later. NBCOT: 36 hours of continuing education every 3 years. The NBCOT accepts 36 hours of OnlineCE courses. OnlineCE is an approved provider of the AOTA # 4023

Continuing Education Requirements by NBCOT
The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) is the national governing body responsible for credentialing Occupational Therapists (OTR) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA). In order to maintain current certification as an OTR or OTA, therapists must meet all NBCOT continuing education (CE) requirements. A total of thirty-six (36) professional development units during a three year cycle are required. A maximum of 36 hours can be obtained through OnlineCE.com Online Continuing Education Courses.
