Michigan Continuing Education Requirements:
OTA: 20 hrs biennially - Michigan Accepts 10 hours of Online Continuing Education Courses
License expires every 2 years based on date of original license.
Special Requirements:
Requires 1 hour of CE in pain management ( ie, courses in behavior management, psychology of pain, pharmacology, behavior modification, stress management, clinical applications, and drug interventions as related to OT)
Important update! Starting June 1, 2022, Renewing licensees and registrants are required to complete 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle. New Applicants for licensure or registration are required to have completed 2 hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. Administrative Rule R 338.1215 requires an individual licensed or seeking licensure to complete training to identify victims of human trafficking. This is a one-time training that is separate from continuing education (CE). Licensees renewing for 2020 must complete training by renewal 2022. Beginning October 19, 2022, completion of the training is a requirement for initial licensure.
One-half of the required CE hours shall be completed in person using live synchronous contact. Online webinars are not accepted for this requirement.
No more than 10 credit hours may be earned during one 24-hour period for on-line activities
NBCOT: 36 hours of continuing education every 3 years. The NBCOT accepts 36 hours of OnlineCE courses. OnlineCE is an approved provider of the AOTA # 4023

Continuing Education Requirements by NBCOT
The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) is the national governing body responsible for credentialing Occupational Therapists (OTR) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA). In order to maintain current certification as an OTR or OTA, therapists must meet all NBCOT continuing education (CE) requirements. A total of thirty-six (36) professional development units during a three year cycle are required. A maximum of 36 hours can be obtained through OnlineCE.com Online Continuing Education Courses.
