Case Presentation: Page 5 of 6

This patient was suffering from a condition known as Dancer’s Syndrome. Years of hip external rotation from dance foot positions creates a gait carried to outside of the dance studio. This leads to the development of trigger points, scar tissue and adhesions in this patient’s iliopsoas, quadratus femoris, pectineus and adductors. With this patient, pain from myofasciitis and contractures lead to biomechanical anomalies in gait and dancing as she attempted to compensate for the pain during hip flexion and extension. Weakness in the gluteus muscles created difficulty standing and increased the difficulty of lifting her leg. Over time, she was no longer able to weight bear.

Question: What treatment would you apply?
