70 yo female presents with swelling and pain at and above her left knee

MRI of the left knee was ordered. It demonstrated evidence of a repaired medial collateral ligament, severe swelling and inflammation in the suprapatellar bursa, atrophy of the quadratus femoris and a slight tibial-femoral disassociation with the superior tibial ridge slightly anterior to the inferior femoral ridge.

 

Question: What is your impression as to why the suprapatellar bursitis continued for 8 years?
