General information Metastasis is 25:1 more common than primary malignancy of the skeleton. The overall incidence of skeletal metastasis from carcinoma on autopsy is 70%. Metastasis likes the red marrow with its rich sinusoidal system; therefore, metastasis tends to fill the medullary space unlike most primaries. Eighty percent of skeletal metastasis will involve the vertebrae.
